Congratulations and Kudos!

2012 was an amazing year for the Virtual Center for Supernetworks and Center Associates! Below we provide a few of the highlights.

Two Center Associates received promotion and tenure -- Dr. Jose M. Cruz was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at the School of Business at the University of Connecticut Storrs and Dr. Ke "Grace" Ke was as well at the School of Business at Central Washington University. In addition, Dr. Fuminori Toyasaki, a former Center Associate, whose dissertation the Center Director, Professor Anna Nagurney, also chaired at the Isenberg School of Management, was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at York University in Toronto, Canada.

Center Associate Dr. Dmytro Matsypura of the University of Sydney's Business School in Australia, was promoted to Senior Lecturer. He had already received tenure a few years back.

Center Associate Professor Min Yu successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in 2012 and is now an Assistant Professor and Pamplin Fellow at the Pamplin School of Business at the University of Portland.

Congratulations to all on their achievements!

This year, the Center Director was honored by a Spotlight Scholar Award from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and is the first faculty member from the Isenberg School of Management so recognized. In addition, she received the 2012 Walter Isard Award for her sustained research contributions in Regional Science at the annual conference in Ottawa, Canada. Professor Anna Nagurney spent several months in 2012 as a Visiting Professor of Operations Management at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden as part of her sabbatical this year.

Center Associate Professor Ladimer S. Nagurney of the University of Hartford was recognized by the Radio Club of America as a Fellow and received his award plaque at a banquet in NYC in mid-November 2012. He was recognized for his work in communications.

Congratulations to Center Associates Professors Patrick Qiang of Penn State Malvern, Ke “Grace” Ke, Trisha Anderson of Texas Wesleyan University, and June Dong of SUNY Oswego. Their paper, The Closed Loop Supply Chain Network with Competition, Distribution Channel Investment, and Uncertainties, appears in the journal Omega (2012), 41(2), 186-194. Also, congrats to Professors Zugang Liu of Penn State Hazleton, Cruz, and Anderson, on the publication of their paper, Consumer Environmental Awareness and Competition in Two-Stage Supply Chains, European Journal of Operational Research (2012), 218(3), 602-613.

Center Associate Professor Tina Wakolbinger of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, had her paper, Alternative Supply Chain Production-Sales Policies for New Product Diffusion: An Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation Approach, co-authored with Professors M. Amini, M. Racer, and M. G. Nejad, published in the European Journal of Operational Research (2012), 216, 301-311.

Center Associate Professor Patrizia Daniele of the University of Catania in Italy, along with Dr. A. Barbagallo and Professor A. Maugeri, has had the paper, Variational Formulation for a General Dynamic Financial Problem: Balance Law and Liability Formula, published in Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications (2012), 75, 1104-1123.

Congrats to Center Associate Professor Min Yu. Her paper, Competitive Food Supply Chain Networks with Application to Fresh Produce, coauthored with Professor Anna Nagurney, appears in the European Journal of Operational Research (2013), 224(2), 273-282.

Center Associate Professor Jose M. Cruz continues to serve as the Interim Director of the Business Analytics and Project Management Master's program at the School of Business at the University of Connecticut.

Doctoral Student Center Associates Amir H. Masoumi had a successful year with research publications. Amir co-authored the paper, Supply Chain Network Operations Management of a Blood Banking System with Cost and Risk Minimization, with Professors Anna Nagurney and Min Yu, which was published in Computational Management Science (2012), 9(2), 205-231. In addition, he co-authored the paper, A Supply Chain Generalized Network Oligopoly Model for Pharmaceuticals Under Brand Differentiation and Perishability, also with Professors Min Yu and Anna Nagurney, which appeared in Transportation Research E (2012), 48, 762-780.

Congrats to Center Associate Professor Ladimer S. Nagurney and to Doctoral Student Center Associate Dong “Michelle” Li. Their paper, with Professor Anna Nagurney, Securing the Sustainability of Global Medical Nuclear Supply Chains Through Economic Cost Recovery, Risk Management, and Optimization, has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation.

Professor Anna Nagurney, along with Doctoral Student Center Associates Sara Saberi and Dong "Michelle" Li continue to work on the NSF-funded project: Network Innovation Through Choice. In addition, Professor Nagurney was a Co-PI on an ASCS project: Cybersecurity Risk Analysis and Security Investment Optimization.

Congratulations to Doctoral Student Center Associate Amir H. Masoumi who took part in the 2012 INFORMS Future Academicians Colloquium, at the INFORMS National Meeting in Phoenix in October.

2013 is beginning as a great year with many activities planned from a symposium on Dynamics of Disasters at the AAAS meeting in Boston in February, to Professor Tina Wakolbinger's visit at the Isenberg School this year, to start.
